Interested in photography? Interested in history and a compelling landscape here at James Monroe’s Highland? Consider participating in the upcoming partnership with the University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies and award-winning photographer John Hulburt. This class, titled “Advanced Digital Photography: Discoveries of James Monroe’s Highland,” is designed for experienced DSLR photographers interested in perfecting their craft while gaining new insights to President James Monroe and his historic Albemarle County home. Study advanced concepts in class and then immediately put them into practice in a series of informative visits to Highland, as President Monroe called his picturesque plantation. Adjacent to lifelong friend Thomas Jefferson’s beloved Monticello, James Monroe’s Highland flourishes as a historic site, scenic event venue, and vibrant learning lab for visitors of all ages. Field trips include special tours and lectures by Highland staff as well as on-site guidance from the instructor to assist students in creating successful images. Students will have an opportunity to select a “best image” from their own portfolio for exhibition.
