Highland Book Club: October Meeting

October 23, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Cover of Jefferson's Daughters Book

Join us on Wednesday, October 23, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., for an evening of lively literary discussion at Highland, the home of President James Monroe. This event is FREE and open to the public.

During the October meeting of our book club, Highland cashier Alissa Pribil will lead the group in discussion of Jefferson’s Daughters, by Catherine Kerrison.

Ballantine Books writes “Thomas Jefferson had three daughters: Martha and Maria by his wife, Martha Wayles Jefferson, and Harriet by his slave Sally Hemings. In Jefferson’s Daughters, Catherine Kerrison, a scholar of early American and women’s history, recounts the remarkable journey of these three women – and how their struggle to define themselves reflects both the possibilities and the limitations that resulted from the American Revolution.”

Guests can sign up for one, two, or all three of the fall Highland Book Club meetings. To RSVP for this FREE event, click on the link below or email museumshop@highland.org.
