Artifacts recovered through archaeological excavation help researchers piece together the stories of Highland. The project “Perspectives from the Main House,” by University of Maryland graduate student Lauren Meyer (W&M ’24), uses artifacts to explore individual experiences at Highland in the early 19th century. Although the objects can’t always be linked to specific individuals, they help illuminate the experiences of people who lived and worked there, including those often overlooked in traditional historical narratives.
