The 2025 archaeological field season completed a deep excavation of a portion of the cellar of the Monroes’ main house from 1799. The cellar was part of the house that was destroyed by fire, likely late in 1829. It was filled with the burned debris of the upper floor, and rubble from the house’s walls. It also had thick layers of clay fill. The excavation was more than five feet deep and took over a month to complete.
