During the summer of 2025, archaeologists at Highland excavated a portion of the “kitchen wing” of the 1799 Monroe main house. This excavation revealed the bottom of the cellar space located beneath the main floor of the structure. While many interesting artifacts were uncovered during the work, one of the most important revelations of the dig was the confirmation that this part of the site was indeed a cellar space, as was previously thought.
