Highland Virtual Book Club: May Meeting
May 12, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us virtually on Wednesday, May 12 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., for an evening of lively discussion hosted by James Monroe’s Highland. This event is FREE and open to the public.
During the May meeting of our book club, Highland guide Sharon Hiner will lead the group in discussion of American Eden: David Hosack, Botany, and Medicine in the Garden of the Early Republic, by Victoria Johnson. Dr. Hosack was the physician who accompanied Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr to their infamous duel.
“Lucky is the biographer who can resurrect a forgotten figure and retrieve a major reputation lost to the passage of time. In this captivating and intensely readable book, Victoria Johnson rescues the remarkable life of Dr. David Hosack, physician and botanist extraordinaire and a towering benefactor of New York and the early republic. A welcome achievement.” — Ron Chernow, author of Grant and Alexander Hamilton.
