Highland Book Club: October Meeting

October 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Cover of The Quartet book

Join us on Tuesday, October 2, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., for an evening of lively literary discussion at Highland, the home of President James Monroe. This event is FREE and open to the public.

During the October meeting of our book club, Highland guide Sharon Hiner will lead the group in discussion of The Quartet: Orchestrating the Second American Revolution, 1783-1789, by Joseph J. Ellis. Guests can support Highland by purchasing their copy at the Highland Museum Shop.

Penguin Random House says “In The Quartet, Pulitzer Prize–winning historian Joseph Ellis tells the unexpected story of America’s second great founding and of the men most responsible—Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, John Jay, and James Madison:  why the thirteen colonies, having just fought off the imposition of a distant centralized governing power, would decide to subordinate themselves anew.”
