Book Talk: Inventing the Presidency: How America Created Its Most Powerful Office

Why did the Founders create a President instead of a king? How did their experiences under British rule shape an office unlike any executive the world had known?
On Wednesday, February 24, at 4:30 PM Highland will welcome law professor Peter C. Cohen for a Presidents Day conversation on the origins of the American presidency and how the office has evolved over time. From George Washington and James Monroe to the presidents of the 20th century to today, Cohen explores the shaping of the presidency and the enduring tension between the need for energetic executive leadership and the dangers of concentrating too much power in one person.
