Liberation and Freedom Days in Charlottesville and Albemarle County

You are invited to join the 2021 celebration of Liberation and Freedom Days in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, organized by the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center. From February 28 through March 6, partners from the Charlottesville area will participate in a series of in person and virtual events to commemorate the arrival of Union troops during March 3-6, 1865, and the subsequent emancipation of thousands of enslaved residents. We hope you will join us in learning about and commemorating this period of Virginia history.
