America250: Voices of Virginia

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, Charlottesville Ballet and Opera on the James will present America250: Voices of Virginia at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the Paramount Theater. This sweeping multidisciplinary performance traces the arc of the American story—from its founding to the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, to today—through dance, opera, theater, poetry, and music created and reimagined by Virginia artists. Across sixteen vivid vignettes, audiences will experience history not as a timeline, but as a living conversation between past and present—where art, history, and community meet.

Moderated by Sara Bon-Harper, Executive Director at Highland, this engaging conversation will bring together artists and scholars from the project to explore how art, history, and community intersect—and how live performance helps us reflect on our shared past while building connection today.
