Highland Celebrates 50 Years of William & Mary Ownership

James Monroe is one of William & Mary’s notable alumni. Together with Central Virginia William & Mary alumni, we have been celebrating 50 years of William & Mary’s stewardship of Highland. Starting in April 2025, 50th anniversary events featured Highland’s stunning research story, geology’s great reveal of deep history presented by W&M professor Chuck Bailey, and classroom and community projects around food traditions.

The brief video below shares some highlights and reflections on the celebration of this milestone year.

The final 50th anniversary event will be held on February 21, 2026, featuring Highland’s environmental conservation approach and some of the many productive collaborations with W&M’s Institute for Integrative Conservation. Please plan to join us!
